PPP_PROXY(8) BSD System Manager's Manual PPP_PROXY(8)NAMEppp_proxy - do login sequence for ppp
SYNOPSISppp_proxy [-s ppp.sys-file] [-x] sysname
DESCRIPTION
The ppp_proxy utility is called by the ppp(8) command to proxy a request
to gettyd(8) utility. The -x flag implies the login sequence should be
reported on standard output (reserved to the super user). If ppp.sys-
file is specified by the -s flag then it is used instead of /etc/ppp.sys.
The sysname argument defines the entry in the ppp.sys file to search for.
The ppp_proxy utility reads a request destined for gettyd(8) from stan-
dard input and forwards it to gettyd(8). When gettyd(8) returns the file
descriptor of the connected device, ppp_proxy applies the login rules de-
fined in the ppp.sys file (see ppp.sys(5)). If the rules fail, the con-
nection to gettyd(8) is dropped and failure is returned to ppp(8). If
the rules succeed, the file descriptors to both gettyd(8) and the con-
nected device are passed back to ppp(8) and ppp_proxy exits with a zero
status.
