EXPLAINATION
The Digital UNIX brk and sbrk system calls provide functionality simi‐
lar to the OpenVMS SYS$EXPREG system service. The brk and sbrk system
calls expand the data segment of the process. It is generally safer to
use the mmap system call or the malloc family of functions since some
UNIX implementations may use brk and sbrk to implement malloc.
