NAME
setitimer - set the interval timer

alarm - request a SIGALRM signal

sigaction - install a signal handler

       SYS$SETIMR - Set timer

EXPLAINATION
The Digital UNIX setitimer system call is	similar to the OpenVMS
SYS$SETIMR system service. The calling program can set its interval
timer to send a SIGALRM (or any variant of the alarm signals) at either
a delta time or a delta time plus recurrent intervals. The alarm func‐
tion requests a SIGALRM signal at a delta time. To install a signal
handler for the signal posted by the setitimer	or alarm calls, the
calling function should call the sigaction system call.

To cancel the	interval timer, submit a timer request with the delta
time and the interval time set to zero.	To cancel the alarm function,
set the delta time to zero. To remove the SIGAlRM signal handler, use
the sigaction system call and set the handler to SIG_DFL or SIG_IGN.
