setvideomode(X1M)


setvideomode -- set a high resolution video mode

Synopsis

/usr/bin/X11/setvideomode [option]

Description

This utility allows the user to reset video resolutions to a known state. This can be helpful after inadvertently setting the resolution to an unusable state.

setvideomode must be run as root.

Options

Run with or without options, setvideomode always displays the current video configuration; for example:
   Current video selection(s):
   Model: GD5480 PCI
    Vendor: Cirrus Logic, Mode: 1024x768-8-60

setvideomode also supports the following command line options; they are mutually exclusive:


-default
restores the resolution to its initial state at install time

-stgvga
restores the resolution to standard VGA mode: 640x480, 16 colors

-update
updates video mode to autodetect any new video adapters after an update installation of the xdrivers package

-test
displays a test pattern for the mode configured on /dev/vt01

-h
displays the usage message

-probe/-noprobe
legacy option, translates to -default

-vinfo
legacy option, translates to -update

-testallmodes
legacy option, translates to -test
